Chutney Pudi or Chutney Powder is a roasted spiced lentil powder used as a popular condiment in south India. Chutney powders are the basic must to have items in south Indian kitchen.

Generally lentils and spices are roasted in medium flame and coarsely ground. Traditionally it is prepared with urad dal, chana dal, toor dal, grated dry coconut, dried red chillies and some curry leaves.

Chutney Powder is perfect with hot steamed rice, idli, dosa, Utappa and can be used as a substitute for pickles. It is served as a side dish along side breakfast in south Indian homes. It is considered incomplete without this condiment. It is also served with hot steamed rice along with a generous pour of ghee or groundnut oil.
